Remove OGA Notifier
I had a call today about Microsoft OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) Notifier becoming an annoyance for a client.
Office Genuine Advantage covers Office XP, Office 2003 and the 2007 Microsoft Office System.
It had to go…
I had a look around, it seems various people had about 5 workarounds to disable the OGA.
- Disable the OGA Addin by editing the registry.
- Disable the OGA Addin from within Word/Excel/Outlook/Powerpoint.
- Remove the OGA Addin files OGAVerify.exe and OGAAddin.dll from the System32 directory.
- Remove the OGA Addin from the registry.
- Run the OGANotifier.msi uninstall process by extracting it from the original OGANotifier.cab file.
I found none of these methods were really the best approach, a combined method would be best.
However, I very quickly discovered that people on the forums seemed to think it could not be uninstalled like any other application, but it can.
Thanks to appdeploy.com I was able to locate the all the uninstall strings for OGA Notifier for all known versions.
These uninstall strings with the right parameters for msiexec can force it to be uninstalled very easily. This, combined with the above “workarounds” used as a “cleanup” method if the uninstaller fails creates a very useful tool.
The removeOGA batch file was born, combining all the uninstall strings and a cleanup process, it’s an idiot proof way to completely remove the OGA Notifier.
- Download removeoga.bat (Right click and save as removeoga.bat)
Enjoy!

This download worked perfectly. Great help, thank you very much
Thanks for file, cured that headache
I tried it on Vista and got “access denied” for all files, but the registry key are gone.
I then right clicked on the Bat file and selected “Run as Administrator”. It could not find the registry keys (they were already done on the first run).
But it was able to eradicate the files OK.
All clear now. Thanks
Batch files are often the simplest and best ways to do the odd jobs.
Funciona Excelente! Gracias.
This worked a treat. Thanks a million.
Cool!!! This works great! Thanks so much!
Easy to use fix.. It looks to work fine for now. Hope the annoying stuff do not come back.
Fantastic, so far it seems it works. I’m glad this was created
Excellent!!! It worked perfectly on IE, it doesn’t work on Mozila though.
Well done. This works on Vista.
PERFECTOOOOOO!
5 stars
Hi
I ran the batch file in windows (not Safe Mode) and that has got rid of the warning message and the unwanted Toolbar – which is good news.
However, I still get the dreaded popups that tell me that “Macromedia Contribute 3″ is trying to be installed whenever I run an office product (3 in a row)….is this connected and would it make a difference running in Safe Mode again?
Any ideas would be very welcome.
Thanks, Tony
Works perfectly! Makes it so simple for a non-IT literate person like me.
That’s great! Your script works perfectly, the only thing is that I couldn’t download it from Google Chrome but I had to use Explorer. However, thats for this great utility!
Genius, cheers!!
You are great…..
A perfect sulution & safe for we can review the batch file.
No insecure crack required! Great work man
Hi.
Ok I saved the .bat and it looks to be only a txt document? How do I actually run this thing? I’d love to try this approach. Thanks for any help!!
No. Found out how to run the .bat…and, worked. Much love for the human race yall!!
Just like Laverie said though, ran it twice, got the “not found” restarted the PC, all seems to be good!
Thanks much fixr Your swell!!!
Love you worked like a charm …(right click .bat run as admin)
This is so cool, was for looking for one of these magic things to make it disappear.
Thank you so much
Thanx. This did the trick. And best of all, its simple and quick. U rock. Grt work.
The crack works great. No virus. However, I need to REMOVE the crack and I can’t. Can anyone help?
Fantastic! Thank you!

thank you..
Thank you so much for this very helpful page. I’ve put up with this annoyance for months & have only recently looked into ways to solve it. The download has worked perfectly & I’ve had no further difficulty since running it two weeks ago.
Great Thanks.. appreciated you help
Great its working perfectly.
Yes, thankyou! It ran fine although it downloaded as a .txt file so I just changed the extension to .bat, not sure if that’s a chrome related issue. Now only time will tell to see if the messages pops back up!
Worked like a charm, thank you so much
Worked perfectly! THANKS!
It worked for me on a Dutch version!
But three days later I encountered the old problem again.
What to do?
Hi, thank you this worked for me too but my copy is still marked as non-genuine when I open up one of the programs in the suite e.g. Microsoft word which states in the toolbar that the copy is not genuine – is there anything I can do to correct this? Thanks!
Brilliant! Worked like a charm!
Worked for me thanks. Awesome
Will, you’ve possibly reinstalled the notifier by updating again. you need to make sure you dont have it checked in windows/office update. If you reinstall it you’re clearly going to reinstall the problem again.
Hi.
I have same issue as Kylie. I did this before about 5 months ago and it worked perfect.
Today, I noticed that Windows dowloaded and installed some new updates to my PC.
One of the new updates was “windows genuine advantage notification” updates…
SO now, when i run the .bat, the “this is not offical” notice is still on my programs…so…
DId microsoft make a new update that is not included in the .bat file?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!
Update!
Hey! Just FYI. I ran it again as administrator…the results told me “files not found”
When I open the programs, walah! Gone the administrator is.
SO…it does seem to work. Thanks much again! Try running as administrator if you have issue.
Thanks again!!!
Hi me again.
Not sure if that worked after all. I opened my excel again now…still there….snap!
Any ideas??
It worked beautifully!
